MEDIA RELEASE: DIRTY WATER HARRISMITH

We received numerous complaints from our members yesterday that water is dirty within certain areas of Harrismith. We immediately reported these complaints to Maluti-A-Phofung yesterday evening.

We received word from one of our members earlier today that Maluti-A-Phofung had collected water samples from his house. We followed up throughout the course of the day. We got in contact with Maluti- A-Phofung just after 5pm. We were informed that the water within the reservoirs was also tested and that sabotage to the water within the reservoirs is suspected. It is alleged that water from the old water purification plant which is no longer in working has been released in to our town’s reservoirs.

We would like to warn the public not to drink the tap water and should you drink the water, to boil it prior to consumption. Unfortunately we cannot say by when the situation will be rectified and when the water will be safe to consume as normal.

We would also like to reassure you as members and the public that we here at HIT Residents Association takes any form of tampering or sabotage to our town’s water extremely seriously, and we will be following up on this case. We must get answers and justice must be served.

We will keep you posted on the progress of the investigation and feedback from Maluti-A-Phofung as we receive it.
