It's not just water, that is a problem in Harrismith. Electricity is a huge problem as well. Some businesses in town paid up to R120 000 for 12 days for generators to keep the lights on. Once again the residents took it upon themselves to fix it. Harrismith was once called the jewel of the Eastern Free State. Like other towns in the country side, Harrismith also deteriorated. The Maluti-a-Phofung municipality has been placed under administration for many years, but the situation went from bad to worse. Harrismith’s residents decided enough is enough and started fixing things that need to be fixed. The Water Heroes from Harrismith is a group of residents that restored the water supply to the town.
